New to the Security Field and Excited to Learn

I just got my security guard license this week and started my first shift yesterday. It’s a bit overwhelming but really exciting! I want to make sure I’m doing everything right, especially with all the protocols we have to follow. Any tips for a newbie like me would be great.

But i remember feeling a bit lost during my first shift too. A solid tip is to always keep an eye on your surroundings and get to know the layout of your post — that’ll help you feel more confident and aware. Have you had a chance to shadow someone experienced yet?

Starting out can feel like trying to learn to juggle while riding a unicycle! A practical tip is to keep a small notebook on you during your shifts; jot down any protocols or observations that stand out. It’ll help you remember and build your confidence as you get more familiar with the role.

It can definitely feel like a lot at first! One thing that helped me was to really pay attention to the specific protocols for your post — don’t hesitate to ask your supervisor for clarification if you need it. I once forgot a key protocol during my first week and it drove me nuts! Have you had a chance to check in with your supervisor yet?
