2026-01-05 – Weekly Security Guard News : Strangest lost-and-found items shared

Last week, our community engaged in lively discussions on a range of topics. Members shared some unusual items found at the front desk lost-and-found, sparking conversations on handling unexpected situations. There was also a technical debate on the performance of DMR radios versus LTE PTT systems under load, with insights shared on reliability and efficiency. Additionally, practical tips for managing lines and evacuations were exchanged, focusing on swift actions for crowd control. The forum also explored the utility of pocket de-escalation cards during Code Gray situations, and how having a structured approach in the first 10 minutes of an incident can make a significant difference.

Found a prosthetic leg in our lobby once β€” , the paperwork. Now we bag and tag the weird stuff with a quick photo and log every contact attempt; it’s saved us arguments when the β€œowner” changes their story. On the DMR vs LTE under load, DMR still holds up best at shift change for us, but we keep LTE PTT as a backup when the repeater hiccups: ETSI - Technologies standardized by our members.

We switched to tamper‑evident evidence envelopes for odd L&F items; we snap one photo, note time and the finder’s initials, and drop a tiny desiccant if it’s electronics β€” less β€˜he said/she said’ later. @zhen_wang89, DMR still punches through our underground dock, but we keep a cheap cell‑PTT handset as failover when storms mess with the repeater. It’s our β€œbag, tag, and file” routine β€” like checking a library book back.

We cut LTE PTT dropouts β€˜under load’ by moving our handsets to carrier priority (FirstNet: https://www.firstnet.com); during Friday 5–7 pm egress it went from jittery to usable, though the sub-garage still favors the repeater.

For oddball electronics, we toss them in a cheap Faraday sleeve β€” think airplane mode on steroids β€” so a β€˜remote wipe’ doesn’t nuke info, snap front/serial pics, and stash it in a camera-visible lockbox. If it buzzes, leaks, or reeks, @Ops elevates to building safety or PD instead of us poking at it.

We started sticking cheap NFC tags on odd L&F items and linking them to the incident number in a shared Google Sheet β€” scan-and-go made audits and returns faster, like AirTags for the front desk without the tracking; β€œtag it once, find it fast.” It only works if everyone has a reader app, so if a post is low‑tech a Sharpie and bold bin labels still win.
